Cane Corso dogs are gentle, loyal, and intelligent. They were originally bred to protect the Romans from enemies both human and canine. The breed’s name roughly translates from Latin as bodyguard dog. They weigh more than 100 pounds and measure up to 28 inches at their shoulder, with a large head, alert expression, and muscles rippling beneath their short coat. Their imposing appearance is their first line of defense against intruders, but they can also be gentle and affectionate companions.
